Off the Rails DT “Foodie” Art Journal Page

DSC04528

Hi Everyone, I am so pleased to be able to share my first Off the Rails design team project “all about food” with you this morning. I seldom take photos of food and have just started to dabble into art journalling so I thought -why not an art journal page about food? My inspiration came from the quote “Laughter is Food for the Soul”

Here’s what I did. Using some natural foodstuffs I produced dyes & paint. The hessian was dyed with beetroot and I mixed turmeric and paprika to produce dye. I have also dyed some gauze with tea and mixed coffee with texture paste.

My art journal is an up cycled children’s book, so I created the background first by painting the page with gesso and covering it with torn pieces of old recipe book paper. I then applied the turmeric wash while the gesso was still bit wet.

Then some paprika wash to cover all the background. As the gesso dried the colours did fade quite a bit unfortunately.

When the gesso had dried I misted with a coffee mist through a stencil and added a fussy cut picture of a woman laughing over some more recipe paper and some tissue printed with kitchen dishes. Then some tea stained gauze, stamping and the quote. I finished off with some hessian and more stamping and a few “splotches” of coffee texture paste through a stencil.

I hope this has given you a few ideas – there’s still time to join in this months challenge.

Scrap the Boys – September Challenge

Hi, I have used a very old photo of my Dad which I think was probably taken in 1924 and is the earliest photo I have of him – perhaps he is really a toddler not baby so I hope thats ok. The beautiful knitted baby clothing in the inspiration board spelled ” Vintage” for me. ย Thanks to the design team for their inspiration.DSC04537

Smile – September Challenges

Hi, I have combined 2 challenges with my layout today – the fab sketch from Sketches in Thyme and the beautiful teal sea colour challenge from White with 1. The colour teal was a personal favourite. Thanks to both design teams for their inspirational projects

Here is my takeDSC04540

The simple sketch provided so much scope for interpretation

Hi ,

I am combining a few challenges with his colourful layout of my granddaughter playing soccer. Thanks to Scrap Our Stash, Archiscraps and Scrapbookit for their fabulous challenge prompts and design team projects.

Here is my take.

I was inspired by the colours in the moodboard from Scrapbookit – blue, teal deep pink and yellow. I have included texture paste, mist and stamping in my mixed media background and have fussy cut some fruit embellishments.

Arch-scraps theme for September is fruit either as an embellishment or in the photo or journalling. I have included a photo of the team enjoying some watermelon after the game and have some fussy cut some fruit embellishments.

The September Golden Globe Stash Challenge inspires the use of a grid design and something transparent. I have used transparent washi tape to divide the grid pattern and also in the film strip embellishment.

Challenge YOUrself – August Challenge

Hi, this was quite a difficult challenge for me as I have very few photos of my mum and me. I have been working on an album of myself for more years than I care to remember and this page will become part of the 8×11 collection. I have included photo of my grandmother too along with other family members so it covers 3 generations of women. The tiny 2×2 photos were taken in 1957 I think. I have titled my layout โ€˜Moruyaโ€™ – the town in which my grandmother lived and where I have many happy holiday memories.

Thanks for another fab challenge and prompt to keep working on this album!!
